RnBass songstress Jhene Aiko has a very intimate sit down with Vice, where she discusses signing her first record deal at 12 years old, taking a leap of faith in creating her debut mixtape Sailing Souls, and catapulting to success after years of hard work.

Jhene also discusses losing her older brother Miyagi to brain cancer, the void it created and the effect that it has had on her work to date.

“I was lost in every sense of the word… and trying to find him in a lover. I equated every guy to him… And I was always disappointed in the guy that I was with… and so that led to all these love songs about failed love – which are probably most of my best songs.”
