Kehlani is one who has never been shy about speaking her mind, and sharing her stories through social media in a way to connect with her fans.
During a Bay Area concert over the weekend, the You Should Be Here vocalist took the time to talk to her fans and address the crowd about a topic very close to her, mental illness. If you recall, back in March, the RnBass singer was hospitalized after a suicide attempt, posting a photo to Instagram of her at a hospital with an IV hooked up to her arm.
“[Suicide] is something that so many young people are dealing with,” Kehlani said. “And so many young people slip under the rug. Please don’t try it. Don’t do it.” As she referenced towards her own suicide attempt from earlier this year, “It wasn’t a first time thing, and that’s not okay…for anyone. Not for the people around you, not for the people that love you, not the people that care about you.”
During the 2 minute video, we’re able to see that her powerful speech towards the crowd is pure and honest, referencing her own attempt, and implying it wasn’t the first. Fans quickly begin to cheer on the Bay Area native as a true support system.
Without a doubt, her one on one moments with her fans are always so uplifting, and inspiring, that this clip once again proves why she’s here to stay and has been such a powerful artist for so many.
Big ups to you Kehlani for moving forward because it’s only up from here!
